Located in 219 Auburn Ave NE Atlanta, GA, Reflections Park is a space designed to celebrate our community and reflect upon the perseverance of those who came before. This park aims to preserve the memory of Sweet Auburn while uplifting and serving the community that lives there today. The rich green maze ensures equitable access to a green space for the overall well-being, relaxation and reflection of the community.

Highlights

  • Community Building

    The park reflects the values and passions of the community. The main aim of this space is to nurture and define a sense of common ground while fostering social interactions which help in supporting an equitable local community.

  • John Lewis Memorial

    A mural honoring John Lewis was created by artist Sean Schwab in 2012. This mural serves as a memorial to John Lewis and all the work he did throughout his life, to ensure that African Americans would be able to live freely and with dignity.

  • Sweet Reflections

    This park design is a symbol of unity and wholeness where the fountain is meant to reflect the sky and ignite the thought that we all share the same planet, so why discrimination? It is a spot in the park, to relax, let go and reflect.

A walk through the park

Reflections Park honors and reflects on the threefold glories of Sweet Auburn, the first being the much celebrated civil rights hero John Lewis, the second is the spirit of justice and the third is the unbreakable resilience in the face of adversities.

The park has designated spots which allows visitors to pause and reflect. With its age adaptive design, accessible pathways and ample greenery, the reflections park provides visitors with a unique and compelling experience.

Park features

The Amphitheater

The centerpiece of Reflections Park, the amphitheater creates an intimate atmosphere, perfect for small performances and community gatherings. Encompassed by lush green accents, it serves as a captivating focal point in the parklet, inviting visitors to relax and reflect on the history and culture they are experiencing in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood.

The Living Wall

Adorning the wall adjacent to the John Lewis mural, a vibrant cascade of lush foliage adds a natural beauty to the urban oasis. The vertical garden not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also enhances air quality and provides a soothing ambiance for visitors to relax and unwind. Its arrangement of plants creates a captivating tapestry, transforming Reflections Park into an emerald sanctuary within the bustling cityscape.

The Fountain

In the center of the amphitheater a fountain bubbles a tranquil symphony. The presence of a water feature soothes the senses, inviting visitors to pause and find respite in the park’s serene ambience. The fountain is a charming focal point where children and adults can gather, chat, and enjoy this unique corner of Sweet Auburn.

Planting the seeds of green spaces

The park aims at the three P’s of sustainability, People, Planet and Prosperity. 

This open green space boosts mental and physical health while creating a space for children to play and communities to come together in a relaxing and peaceful environment. 

The park promotes greater urban biodiversity and reduces noise pollution as well as heat island effects of urbanization and advanced development of the city of Atlanta. 

Reflections Park increases tourism by attracting non-resident visitors and improves property value  by enhancing the value of residential properties near green spaces.
